About

I am a Chicago-based artist working in oil, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media. Works in progress include the Datsuzoku Series. Datsuzoku is a Japanese aesthetic principle that means to perceive the everyday with a new outlook and an open mind. The Datsuzoku Series engages this principle as an ecological statement. The animals are seen on a smaller scale, which spotlights their resilience and courage to leave their comfort zone to explore nebulous surroundings.

My influences are more than I can list here, but I’m forever grateful to my aunt, Virginia O’Donnell, whose landscapes reflected her love of rural Midwest scenery with nods to Van Gogh. She gave me my first lessons in oil painting when I was a pre-teen, and that was it! I was in love.
