About

I grew up in a large extended family of people who liked to make things. Whether it was sewing, coloring, drawing, painting or sculpting, we did it all, usually with a group of cousins, usually around the kitchen table. Largely because of their example and their encouragement of my childhood projects, I pursued a lifetime of art making.

I studied fine art in undergraduate school and went on to get a degree in art therapy in graduate school. I practiced art therapy for over 30 years. As an art therapist, I learned in a formal way what I intuitively learned sitting around my family’s kitchen table, that you don’t have to be an artist with a capital “A” to enjoy the benefits of art making, benefits too numerous to mention here, but that I know exist.

My own art making reflects these experiences. I am interested in exploring ideas, emotions, self and others, the world, and materials. I find inspiration all around me, in nature, music, books, other people’s art, the news. I tend to focus on the process of creating but am also happy with a beautiful product. I make art because I always have. I make art because I like to make things.
