Chicago Artists Month Oct 2012 Theme Block by Block

Chicago Artists Month 2012

Celebrating Artists and Their Neighborhoods

Art Block by Block will be the theme for Chicago Artists Month (CAM) 2012, celebrating the intimate connection Chicago’s artists and neighborhoods have forged, to their mutual benefit. CAM 2012 offers valuable promotional exposure for Chicago’s visual arts community and will begin accepting applications in May from artists and organizations interested in presenting programs as part of this popular month-long celebration of Chicago’s visual arts community. You can find a complete description of the theme below. To learn more, click here.

The Chicago Artists Month 2012 theme, Art Block by Block, explores the impact of Chicago-based artists on Chicago’s neighborhoods. Inspired by the city’s cultural planning process and its focus on engaging creatives in every community, Chicago Artists Month 2012 will examine how visual artists enhance Chicago’s cultural landscape and make each neighborhood unique. Chicago’s artists are active citizens: they contribute to the civic dialogue as designers of public art, they strengthen the fabric of our neighborhoods with community art-making projects, and they inspire conversations that address the concerns of our communities. Chicago Artists Month 2012 celebrates the city’s art and artists as essential building blocks in the development of vibrant and livable neighborhoods that connect to make Chicago a world-class creative city.

Help Kevin and Mare Swallow Kickstart the Writer’s Conference

The Chicago Writers Conference is coming this fall: September 14-16.

My wife founded the conference to help bridge the business end of writing with the creative side. To help get it off-the-ground, she is running aKickstarter fundraising campaign for the next 30 days to help raise the start up dollars. I am donating art towards this project as rewards for people who pledge donations at various levels (see below).

She was able to get Chicago rock band, OK Go to donate a song to use in the Kickstarter video. The Chicago Tribune has generously donated the space to hold the conference. She has some prominent local authors, publishers and agents lined up. Now, she needs help to get a full website up and running with registration capabilities along with other conference-related expenses.

If you’d like to support this project and help the Chicago writing community continue to grow, please visit the Kickstarter page to watch the video, get more info and to make a donation. The temporary Chicago Writers Conference website has additional details too. Thank you!

She selected Inside Clouds for her show at Evans Encasutics on the theme of color, and says it is humbling to be included amongst such talented and well respected artists. Enjoy the show:
